A man and woman interview a woman for a position

Successful financial and mortgage advisers know that when it comes to financial adviser skills, the ‘soft skills’ of the trade are just as critical for building a successful career and a burgeoning bank of clients, as the technical abilities that you pick up as you gain your qualifications.

We recently conducted a survey of over 50 financial services firms, to gauge their attitudes towards the range of skills newly qualified financial advisers possess. A staggering 85% reported that, while technically competent, newly qualified advisers lacked the all-important necessary soft skills to communicate effectively and build lasting, trusting relationships with clients, and in many cases, it can take up to two years to acquire those skills without additional training.

So, if you are newly-qualified and looking to secure your first job in the industry, or already working in house, but aiming to move into an adviser role, you can be sure that one way to give yourself an edge over others competing for a position is to improve these critical soft skills. Developing your abilities in this area will allow employers to recognise you as a candidate who will hit the ground running.

Our AdviserSkills programme  can help you to rapidly develop or fine-tune these crucial abilities and allow you make rapid progress along the financial adviser career path. Its structured approach supports learners to master key financial adviser skills such as developing client rapport, working to a business plan, maintaining a CPD record, working in a client’s best interest, spotting opportunities, adhering to regulation and compliance, etc, that typically take hundreds hours in the job to develop.

Our 5-day programme equips learners with the essential skills you need to be a success in the industry, and ensure that, once technically qualified, you’ll be ideally placed to get up to speed quickly and smoothly, outperforming peers lacking these necessary skills and reaching your full potential much more quickly in comparison. The programme runs throughout the year. It is delivered via webinar, and in the classroom at locations in London, Manchester and Birmingham. Look out for more locations being added soon!
